How much is the credit for each child in the 2021 taxes?
Normally, for family reunification it is necessary for the family member to apply for a visa at a German representation (embassy/consulate) in the country in which he/she usually resides (i.e. for at least six months). When applying for a visa, it is important that you apply for a visa for the purpose for which you actually intend to reside in the country and not, for example, for tourism.
The foreign representation and the immigration authority of the place of residence of the spouse already living in Germany will inspect the visa application together.
In principle, the family member who is already living in Germany, provided that he or she is not German, must also have an apartment with sufficient space, although the requirements for this are not too high.
If the requirements for a residence permit are not met, the competent immigration authority will determine at its discretion whether a residence permit for a visa is granted. However, it is only permitted if there is a “special hardship case”, i.e. an inadmissible situation for those concerned.
Child care payment
In all EU countries, the mother automatically acquires parental responsibility for her child, as does the married father. In most cases, the parents exercise this responsibility jointly.
In cases of divorce or separation, it is important to determine whether the children will live exclusively with one parent or alternately with both parents. The parents can try to reach a mutual agreement in this respect.
The central administration responsible for parental responsibility issues can help you with your specific case. Find the central administration responsible for matrimonial and parental responsibility issues.

In March 2021, the American Rescue Plan enacted the expanded Child Tax Credit for 2021 and can now be received in advance. Part of this expansion includes sending the 2021 tax credit in advance to families through direct payments during 2021 instead of making them wait until they prepare their 2021 taxes in 2022.
Most families do not need to do anything to receive their advance payments. Normally, the IRS will calculate the payment amount based on your 2020 taxes. Eligible families will receive their payments either by direct deposit or check.
These payments are an advance on your 2021 Child Tax Credit. The amount you receive will be reconciled to the amount you are eligible for when you prepare your 2021 taxes in 2022. Most families will receive about half of their tax credit through advance payments. If you receive less, you will be owed an additional amount on your tax return. In the unlikely event that you receive more, you may have to pay the excess back, depending on your income level.
